What is Beauty: Exploring the beauty in young women around the world
"[ …] but they would not survive unless they possessed a kind of adaptability in changing cultural conditions, something that allows their plotlines to be told and retold, despite- or better yet, in the face of- changing circumstances. "
-Roger Lancaster
In a world of evolutionists, how can one conclude that beauty itself cannot change?
Our goal is to show that you cannot define beauty. We take a look at beauty across the world and focus on young women in Western, Middle Eastern, African, and Asian cultures throughout different time periods and how the images of women evolved through the years world wide. We focus on young women because we feel that they are the most impacted by this "ideal" perception of beauty. Each page focuses on the aspects of beauty that are important to its particular culture, exemplifying the vast diversity in each unique definition of beauty.
Please visit our "Meet the Authors" page, where we showcase our diversity, and share our opinions on beauty as well as documents of our journey through this project. Being such an emotional topic, we felt that this would be beneficial for each of us to reflect.
"beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, but perhaps it is more accurate to say that beauty is in the geography" - Anon-
